Northern Pygmy or Elf Owl? Which one is smaller?
It's hard to imagine a full-grown, adult owl that fits in the palm of your hand and weighs in at just a little over one ounce. What a cutie! These like guys would look great on a nice shirt. Check 'em out!
The Northern Pygmy Owl and the Elf Owl both are in strong competition for the World's Smallest Owl. These feathered munchkins are tiny, fast, and oh-so-cute!

Smallest and rarest of all the owls is the Peruvian Long-whiskered Owlet, having never actually been
seen under normal circumstances until 2007. Roughly the same size as the Elf Owl, but considerably
rarer, the Long-whiskered Owlet is subject to intense speculation. Possessing striking red eyes, and
long fanning whiskers, these rare little creatures are a mystery wrapped within an enigma. Considered
to be critically endangered, their habitat is shrinking rapidly, with less than a thousand thought to
be in the wild. Considered a treasure of South American ornithology, steps are being taken by the
community to protect and preserve these little owlets from further harm.
Smaller than the world's smallest cats, and infinitely more adorable, the unique little owlets go to show
that good things do indeed come in small packages, with enough cuteness seeping from their ruffled
little plumage to soften the heart of even the most frenzied kitten lover, helping to once again propel
the owl into the spotlight as the premier animal ambassadors of adorableness.
